50th International School & Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors

"Jaszowiec 2022"

Szczyrk, Poland, 4-10 June 2022

The organizers of "Jaszowiec 2022" express their solidarity with Ukraine.

All colleagues from Ukraine may submit abstracts until 29 April 2022 and apply for a conference fee waiver.

All abstracts of scientists affiliated with Russian and Belarusian institutions will be rejected.

About the conference

In 2022, we celebrate the jubilee of the annual International School & Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors "Jaszowiec" – it is already the 50th. Its program is therefore special, and in addition to regular events, it includes a reminiscence session on the most important achievements in the field of semiconductor physics over the past years in the institutions organizing the conference. What’s more, we meet in-contact or virtually with our colleagues who have used to be related to the institutions and have continued their wonderful professional careers abroad.

Traditionally, the “Jaszowiec” Conference brings together outstanding world experts in the broad field of semiconductors physics, working both in foreign research centers (in 2021 they were from 16 countries) and in Poland. This is also the case at this jubilee “Jaszowiec 2022” Conference.

Over last 50 years, the "Jaszowiec" Conference has become an internationally recognized event and is well known in the world community of semiconductor physics. The conference covers the most up-to-date and relevant scientific problems, classified as belonging to the semiconductor physics in a very broad sense. During the conference the key scientific problems that could lead to the development of experimental, theoretical and computational modelling disciplines in semiconductor physics, and to emergence of new technologies and applications, are discussed.

A tutorial session (School), addressed mainly to MSc students, PhD students and young scientists, was established in 1992, and since then precedes the Conference. The subjects of the School lectures relate to current research problems in the field of solid state physics and vary from year to year.

In the recent years the number of participants of the School and Conference reached ca 250, making “Jaszowiec” the largest conference on semiconductor subject held in the Central Europe. Thanks to its multinational character the conference enables and stimulates the exchange of experience and networking at international and national levels.

The high scientific quality of the conference every year is maintained thanks to the effort of world-class experts from the Advisory and Program Committees. The Advisory Committee consists of 11 experts from leading centers for the physics of semiconductors in Europe, North America and Japan. The Program Committee is composed of experts from Polish co-organizing institutions.

In 2022, the School (June 4-5) and the Conference (June 6-10) are held in in-person form, if the pandemic allows it. During the School, five (1.5 hours long) lectures provide an introductory overview of some Conference topics. The program of the Conference consists of 18 invited lectures (75% of which are given by foreign guests), over 30 short oral and about 130 poster presentations.

The meeting offers a very good opportunity for the transfer of knowledge between excellent scientists participating in “Jaszowiec” Conference and students. The daily time schedule, with the afternoons free of lectures, provides also many opportunities for less formal discussions and building future co-operations, it also allows trips to the surrounding picturesque mountains.

In the Program and Organizing Committees of the International School & Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors "Jaszowiec 2022" the leading Polish research centers active in the field are involved, i.e.:

  • Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences
  • Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw (Institute of Experimental Physics and Institute of Theoretical Physics)
  • Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology, Wrocław University of Science and Technology
  • Institute of High Pressure Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences
  • Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics

The project was co-financed from the state budget as part of the PERFECT SCIENCE (DOSKONAŁA NAUKA) program - more information.
